Description
From the bottler Sexywhisky, a 12 year old Fettercairn, distilled in 2009, bottled at 53.7%, one of 30 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland malt of pineapple and citrus, distilled at the foot of the mountains. John Gladstone's son William became Prime Minister and reformed the taxation of whisky.
The spirit was worked through the cooling ring stills for a clean, fruity make, the cooling rings lifting a clean, tropical character. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper pineapple and pear. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way.
At cask strength 53.7% it is full bodied. Pineapple, citrus and a soft vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. It finishes long, fruity and clean. This is Fettercairn, one of Scotland's oldest licensed distilleries.
