Description
The original Old Comber distillery made pot still whiskey in the Co. Down town of Comber until the 1950s, and its surviving stock became prized old bottlings once the site fell silent. Echlinville, the Kircubbin distillery that also revived Dunville's, brought the name back with its own spirit, this 7 Years Old single pot still released in 2025 as an event bottling of 2016 bottles.
The whiskey draws on American bourbon, Port and sherry casks, a three way vatting that sets red fruit and dried fig against the vanilla backbone, with the peppery, gingery spice of malted and unmalted barley running through it. At a cask strength 50% the texture is dense and oily, the old Comber style reimagined rather than imitated.
