Description
A 30 year old Dufftown from the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, distilled in 1982, from cask DL 9272, bottled at 50%, one of 174 bottles. Dufftown is one of Diageo's largest malt distilleries, founded in 1895 in a former mill. The town of Dufftown holds the highest concentration of distilleries in Scotland.
The spirit was distilled for the nutty, malty character Dufftown is known for, for a clean, malty Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the nutty, malty character to the fore. At a great, fragile age oxidation rules, sotolon lending maple and dried fig as beeswax and a nutty honey linger. The malty, nutty spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its Speyside fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple and malt deepening to honey. For years it made a rich, nutty, spicy spirit in the Bell's style. Its water is drawn from Jock's Well, an artesian spring in the Conval Hills.
At 50%, undiluted, it is deep and malty. Honey, nut and a touch of spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. The finish is rounded, malty and gently spiced. This is the Singleton of Dufftown in single malt form.
