Description
A Dufftown of an 11 year old chosen by the bottler A.D. Rattray, distilled in 2009, from cask 700824 / 353119, bottled at 52.5%, one of 335 bottles. Dufftown is a nutty, malty Speyside single malt from the malt whisky capital of the world. It became the heart of the Bell's blend after Arthur Bell and Sons bought it in 1933.
Run through the stills on water from Jock's Well in the Conval Hills, the long ferment building a grassy, fruity character. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the malt. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and nuttier. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Dufftown warehouses. Built for the blender's art, the spirit ages with grace as a single malt. The Singleton of Dufftown is matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak.
At its natural 52.5% it is concentrated. A smooth, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. Apple, nut and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a smooth, malty Speyside malt from the Conval Hills.
