Description
The bottler Blackadder bottled this Dufftown, a 10 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 100, bottled at 46%, one of 413 bottles. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt drawn from Jock's Well in the Conval Hills. It runs a full lauter mash tun, twelve washbacks and six stills, and works around the clock.
The spirit was worked through the stills with a creamed yeast for a malty, fruity make, for the nutty, spicy make Dufftown is known for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the fruit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the smooth Speyside spirit. Maturation in the eight Dufftown warehouses is slow and steady. Eight warehouses on site hold close to 100,000 casks of maturing malt. The Singleton of Dufftown is matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak.
At 46% it is malty, nutty and smooth. A malty, nutty sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. Apple, nut and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the Singleton of Dufftown in single malt form.
