A 20 year old Colombian column rum finished in Port casks, with coffee, cocoa and caramel over a sweet, spicy, wine-tinged palate at 44%, an aged ron where the Port barrel leads the character.
Description
Dictador Rima 1 is a Colombian ron vintaged 2002 and finished in Port casks, part of the distillery's column-distilled, Spanish-style output. Carrying a stated 20 years, it leans on cask influence for its richness, with the Port wood adding a distinct fruity, wine-soaked dimension.
The nose offers coffee, wood, chocolate and caramel, while the palate turns sweet and spicy with clear Port and barrel character, closing on a woody, coffee-tinged, spicy finish. At 44% it drinks with a bit more grip than the softer 40% bottlings. As with much of the brand, age and origin claims are best taken as part of the storytelling rather than gospel, and the rum is most enjoyable judged on the glass, where the coffee-and-Port combination gives it genuine after-dinner appeal.
