Dictador 78 Pt Platinum is a long aged Colombian from one of the country's flagship houses, carrying three decades of ageing and, unusually for the style, an unsweetened presentation. Dictador is built on coffee and cocoa rich rums, and this old release shows that lineage with added restraint.

Distilled from molasses and matured in Ex-Bourbon oak, it offers a nutty nose of chocolate, caramel and vanilla, then dried fruit, wood and oak across the palate with chocolate underneath, finishing on dried fruit, allspice and coffee. The decision to leave it undosed lets the long oak ageing show its dry, dignified side rather than masking it with sugar, a welcome honesty given how often Colombian ron is sweetened.
