Dictador 16

Dictador 16 is the older sibling in the core range from Destiléría Colombiana, a Cartagena house known for solera leaning, coffee and cocoa accented ron in the Spanish style. This is molasses spirit run off a column still and given sixteen years in oak, bottled at an unfussy 40% for sipping rather than mixing.

The spirit itself is light and clean by design, so the character is drawn from the barrel: caramel and toffee up front, a clear seam of roasted coffee, and a dusting of allspice that carries into a woody, gently sweet close. Added sugar is not disclosed, and the profile reads softly rounded rather than bone dry, so it sits closest to an after dinner pour. Honest in scale and direct in flavour, it is an undemanding everyday Colombian aged rum rather than a heavyweight.
