Delaforce Fine Ruby Port

Delaforce Fine Ruby Port is the everyday red Port of the Delaforce house, made under Real Companhia Velha, Portugal's Oldest wine company, from Douro Valley vineyards including Rio Torto and Roncao in the Cima Corgo. It is built on Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, hand-harvested for the blend.

As a ruby, the wine is aged for a short time in large wooden vats rather than small oxidative casks, a reductive route that locks in bright colour and fresh, primary red fruit. Fermentation is stopped with grape spirit to keep natural sweetness and lift the wine to 20%, and the blend is designed to drink young rather than to develop further in bottle.

The result is a lightly perfumed wine with raspberry and ripe plum, smooth sweet berry fruit and a fresh, balanced texture framed by direct, firm tannins. Serve it at cool room temperature after a meal, with dark chocolate, mature cheddar and blue cheese, or over ice for a simple port and tonic.
