Description
The bottler Brühler Whiskyhaus bottled this Deanston, a 13 year old, bottled at 53.2%, one of 274 bottles. Deanston is a Highland single malt, unchillfiltered and made from Scottish barley near Stirling. Its wash is fermented long, for a fruity, estery character.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated Scottish barley in bulbous copper stills, for a soft, waxy make of green apple and honey. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the green, waxy fruit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey. Refill oak lets the waxy, honeyed Deanston character lead the way. It draws water from the River Teith, which also drives the turbine that powers the distillery. It uses 100% Scottish barley and bottles its malt unchillfiltered, with no added colour.
At its natural 53.2% it is concentrated. Green fruit, honey and a soft spice, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. It is fruity and waxy, the malty spirit shining through. Apple, honey and a soft oak spice see out a long finish. This is the cotton mill malt of the River Teith.
