Dailuaine 9 Years Old 2013 Cask #324399 (Global Whisky Limited)

The bottler Global Whisky Limited bottled this Dailuaine, a 9 year old, distilled in 2013, from cask 324399, bottled at 57.8%, one of 309 bottles. Dailuaine is the rich, malty Speyside single malt that helped build the Johnnie Walker blends. A fire in 1917 destroyed the maltings, and the distillery was rebuilt soon after.

Distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, for a rich, meaty make that suits sherry wood. Maturation in an Oloroso cask laid dried fruit over the meaty, malty spirit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the heavy spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the meaty malt. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron. Maturation in the cool north east keeps the rich spirit balanced over the years.

At cask strength 57.8% it is full bodied. Dried fruit, malt and a rich, savoury depth, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. The finish runs meaty, fruity and warm. This is one of Speyside's heavier single malts.
