Description
A Dailuaine of an 8 year old chosen by the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, distilled in 2010, from cask DL 13103, bottled at 46%, one of 422 bottles. Dailuaine is a heavy, fruity Speyside single malt from near Aberlour. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey.
The spirit was distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, for the rich, full bodied make Dailuaine is known for. A sherry cask wrapped the rich spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth, a fine match for the heavy malt. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a robust, meaty malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the meaty malt. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards dried fruit, fig, leather and a warm spice. A first fill sherry cask suits the robust spirit, dried fruit meeting the meaty weight.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. A robust, sherried maltiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a rich malt sit behind the cask. The finish is long, rich and savoury. This is the rich, full bodied Speyside malt of Dailuaine.
