Description
This Dailuaine was bottled by the bottler Blackadder, a 5 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask ABD 1017, bottled at 46%, one of 184 bottles. Dailuaine is a rich, meaty Speyside single malt from the banks of the Spey near Aberlour. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron.
The spirit was worked through the big stills for a meaty, malty spirit, to build a robust, malty, sherry loving character. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the oak letting the heavy, malty character lead. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the heavy spirit. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit over a rich malt. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice. Its big stills give a heavy, full bodied spirit that takes sherry wood especially well.
At 46% it is smooth and honeyed. Dried fruit, malt and a rich, savoury depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Dried fruit, malt and a savoury spice fill the middle. A long, full finish carries a savoury depth. This is a rich, malty Speyside single malt.
