Description
A Dailuaine of a 15 year old chosen by the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, distilled in 2007, from cask DL 15944, bottled at 48.4%, one of 464 bottles. Dailuaine is a heavy, fruity Speyside single malt from near Aberlour. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy.
Distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, giving the heavy, meaty spirit at its heart. Ex-Sherry wood added a deep dried fruit richness to the full bodied malt. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, fruit turning to dried fruit over a rich, malty body. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit over a rich malt. Water comes from the Bailliemullich Burn, the spirit drawn off three wash and three spirit stills. Dailuaine's heavy, malty make is prized by blenders for the body it gives. Most of its make goes to blending, with a Flora and Fauna sixteen year old the regular single malt.
At 48.4%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Apple, dried fruit and a meaty edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a malty depth give it weight. The close is long, fruit over a rich malt. This is Dailuaine, a backbone of the great blends.
