Description
A 14 year old Dailuaine from the bottler Malts of Scotland, distilled in 2010, from cask Mos 24043, bottled at 56.1%, one of 282 bottles. Dailuaine is a rich, meaty Speyside single malt from the banks of the Spey near Aberlour. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron.
It was distilled in large conical necked stills on Bailliemullich Burn water, for a big, full Speyside spirit. Maturation in an Oloroso cask laid dried fruit over the meaty, malty spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper orchard fruit over the meaty malt. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride. The full bodied make rewards a long, patient maturation in good wood. The rich, full bodied spirit takes cask flavour well, especially sherry wood.
At 56.1%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A heavy, malty fruitiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is full and rich, the fruit lifted by a meaty malt. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is the rich, full bodied Speyside malt of Dailuaine.
