Description
This Dailuaine was bottled by the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, a 12 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask DL 15399, bottled at 55%, one of 132 bottles. Dailuaine is a full bodied Speyside malt of real depth, mostly bottled by independents. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey.
It was run through the distillery's big copper stills, to build a robust, malty, sherry loving character. A sherry cask wrapped the rich spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth, a fine match for the heavy malt. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the heavy body fuller and richer. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards dried fruit, fig, leather and a warm spice. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride. Its big stills give a heavy, full bodied spirit that takes sherry wood especially well.
At a hearty 55% it carries real weight. A robust, sherried maltiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. It finishes robust, malty and warm. This is one of Speyside's heavier single malts.
