Description
An 11 year old Dailuaine from the bottler Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd, distilled in 2012, bottled at 58.8%, one of 552 bottles. Dailuaine is a heavy, fruity Speyside single malt from near Aberlour. In 1889 it became the first distillery to use the pagoda roof, the Doig Ventilator designed by Charles Doig.
Distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, building the heavy Dailuaine style. A sherry cask wrapped the rich spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth, a fine match for the heavy malt. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the heavy body fuller and richer. Most Dailuaine goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey. The name is Gaelic for the green vale, after the hollow in which the distillery sits.
At a natural 58.8% it is full and honeyed. Apple, dried fruit and a meaty edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a malty depth give it weight. Dried fruit, malt and a savoury oak see out the finish. This is a rich, dried fruit laden Speyside single malt.
