    Batch No. 04-6137
    700ml / 46%
    Single Malt

    $154

A 17 year old Craigellachie from the distillery, at 46%. A full bodied malt of pineapple, wax and a savoury oil. It keeps its old fashioned worm tub condensers for a heavy, robust spirit. A robust, oily Speyside malt, old fashioned and full bodied. Water comes from a local spring in the Blue Hill area above the village. This is the meaty heart of the White Horse blend.

A 17 year old Craigellachie, a distillery bottling, cask Batch 04-6137, at 46%. Craigellachie was built in 1891 and is one of the few distilleries still using worm tubs. Its malt has long been the muscular heart of the White Horse blend.

The spirit was run through the distillery's stills and old fashioned worm tubs, for an oily, robust make that turns tropical with age. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the oak letting the oily, robust character lead. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the worm tub weight turning to mango and a waxy depth. Worm tubs give little copper contact, so the new spirit is heavy and full, mellowing with time. The official range runs a thirteen, seventeen and twenty three year old, with rare older bottlings. The meaty, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its robust, worm tub weight. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the young sulphur fading to fruit.

At 46% it is clean and soft. Meaty malt, tropical fruit and a waxy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run meaty malt, tropical fruit and a waxy oil. The close is long, fruit over a meaty malt. This is an oily, tropical Speyside single malt.
