Description
A 10 year old Craigellachie from the bottler Atom Brands, bottled at 65.2%. Craigellachie is a robust, fruity Speyside single malt from the heart of the region. It keeps its worm tub condensers, an old fashioned set up that builds a heavy, meaty, sulphurous spirit.
The spirit was distilled for the heavy, meaty spirit Craigellachie is known for, building the old fashioned Craigellachie style. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the meaty character to the fore. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper, tropical fruit over the meaty malt. The oily spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and tropical fruit over a meaty malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the meaty malt. Worm tubs give little copper contact, so the new spirit is heavy and full, mellowing with time.
Bottled at a cask strength 65.2%, it is rich. Malt, dried fruit and a savoury oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pineapple, malt and a savoury wax fill the middle. The finish is deep, oily and savoury. This is Craigellachie's robust, oily Speyside style.
