The Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing bottled this Clynelish, a 25 year old, distilled in 1997, from cask DL 16314, bottled at 47.5%, one of 129 bottles. Clynelish stands on the North Sea coast at Brora, the modern neighbour of the lost Brora distillery. The famous wax is said to come from the build up in the distillery's feints receivers.

Drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, building the cult Clynelish waxiness. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the wax. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds waxy tropical fruit. The clean, oily spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and honey over the wax. Most of its make goes to blending, with a fourteen year old the flagship single malt. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the waxy, oily spirit. The original Clynelish was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford during the Highland Clearances.

At cask strength 47.5% it is full bodied. Candle wax, lemon and a coastal salt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is waxy and citrussy, the oily spirit shining through. The finish is long, waxy and citrussy. This is Clynelish's oily, coastal Highland style.
