Description
From the Paris house La Maison du Whisky, a 20 year old Clynelish, distilled in 1995, from cask 8684, bottled at 54.2%, one of 600 bottles. Clynelish, built in 1967 beside the old Brora distillery, is known for its signature waxy texture. The original Clynelish was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford during the Highland Clearances.
The spirit was distilled for the waxy, oily spirit Clynelish is known for, for a maritime spirit with a beeswax richness. An Oloroso hogshead lent raisin and a savoury, nutty edge to the wax. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, lemon turning to candied orange over a thick, oily wax. Clynelish wax and a maritime salt run through the maturing spirit. It is the heart malt of Johnnie Walker Gold Label, and a sought after single malt in its own right. Refill oak lets the famous Clynelish wax lead, lemon and honey beneath.
Bottled at a cask strength 54.2%, it is rich. Waxy honey, lemon and a savoury edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A beeswax and a savoury edge give it depth. A long, waxy finish carries an orange sweetness. This is the waxy heart of Johnnie Walker Gold.
