A Marie-Galante single cask of Bielle bottled by Chateau du Breuil for its Rum Explorer range, the distillery’s fierce cane tamed into a fresh, sugar-cane-led pour with a woody, nutty, spiced finish at a measured 44.6%.
Description
This is a single cask of Bielle, the characterful Marie-Galante agricole house, selected and bottled by Chateau du Breuil under its Rum Explorer label. Distilled from fresh sugar-cane juice on a column still under the Guadeloupe IGP, it represents an outside selector's take on a distillery known for its assertive, marker-heavy spirit.
The notable thing here is restraint: where Bielle can be wild, this cask comes across as tamed and approachable, the nose vegetal and the palate fresh and clearly sugar-cane-led. The finish is where the wood speaks, turning vegetal, nutty and spiced with a woody backbone. It is a cleaner, more composed Bielle than the distillery's own high-proof blancs, a pleasant surprise from a Calvados house better known for apple brandy. Bottled at 44.6% with no added sugar in evidence, it suits drinkers who want Marie-Galante cane character without the full force of the distillery's signature.
