An Enmore under the Bonpland label from Capulet and Montague, twenty-eight years old at 50 percent, emphatically woody with fruitcake, leather and coffee over barrel, tannins and pencil shavings, finishing bitter and tannic.
Description
This Bonpland Enmore 1988 is a twenty-eight year old single cask bottled in Germany by Capulet and Montague Brands, matured in ex-bourbon wood and presented at 50 percent. It carries the Enmore name, home of the world's last operating wooden Coffey still, though nearly three decades in barrel have pushed it firmly into deep-wood territory.
The nose offers fruitcake, wood, leather and coffee, with barrel, tannins, pencil shavings and fruitcake on the palate, finishing bitter over red wine, tannins and graphite. Drinkers describe a blatantly woody Enmore, well integrated in alcohol but with the oak running close to its limit, layered with juniper, fruit bread, raisin and roasted notes. It is an unsweetened, heavily aged bottling where the long maturation dominates, a tannic, leather-and-fruitcake old Enmore for drinkers who actively seek maximum wood.
