Captain Morgan White Rum

Captain Morgan White Rum is a mass-market white blend bottled at a low 37.5%, built for volume and mixing rather than flavour. It is honest to say this is cheap party fuel: a neutral, lightly characterised spirit whose purpose is to disappear into sweet cocktails and longdrinks, not to be appreciated on its own.

The profile is thin and spirit-forward, leaning alcoholic and slightly medicinal with a faint orange peel note and a sharp, mineral finish. There is little of the fermented cane character or oak influence that gives more serious white rums their interest, which is precisely why it works as a blank base for fruity drinks. Taken neat it is harsh and unrewarding, but stirred into a sweet, citrus-driven cocktail or a simple longdrink it does the undemanding job it was made for. As a budget mixer it is functional; as a sipping rum it is not, and is best judged only on the former.
