The bottler Alistair Walker Whisky Company bottled this Caol Ila, a 13 year old, at 55.2%. Clean and coastal, the smoke leans to lemon and olive oil, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. The spirit is matured largely on the mainland. One of the largest malt distilleries in all of Scotland. This is a refined Islay single malt that wears its style lightly.

Description
The bottler Alistair Walker Whisky Company selected this Caol Ila, a 13 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 1820, bottled at 55.2%, one of 268 bottles. Caol Ila is the smoky backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends. The six tall stills sit behind picture windows looking out to Jura.
Drawn off a high cut from peated barley, giving a bright, citrus driven peat. A sherry cask gave dried fruit and a dark, nutty sweetness. Through integration the spirit and cask settle, lactone coconut and a soft vanillin balancing the easing phenols. The spirit's high notes of lemon and grass survive even long maturation. The tall stills and a high cut give a lighter, cleaner spirit than the southern Islays. The clean, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while holding its citrus and smoke. From a small Victorian works it grew into one of Scotland's biggest malt distilleries.
Bottled at a cask strength 55.2%, it is intense. A smoky, briny coastal character, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. The oily body carries the smoke long and clean. The close is long, smoke over a citrus lift. This is one of the most versatile of the Islay malts.
