Distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2024, this 10 year old single malt from Bushmills was released as part of The Causeway Collection. After primary maturation, the whiskey was finished in Barolo wine casks and bottled at 51.2 percent ABV without chill filtration.
The Barolo casks contribute tannin, acidity and phenolic structure rather than overt wine sweetness, tightening the palate and emphasising dark fruit and citrus oils. Bottled at higher strength, this is a dry, structured and deliberately shaped wine influenced Bushmills release.

Description
Distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2024, this 10 year old single malt from Bushmills forms part of The Causeway Collection and examines how structured wine casks interact with relatively young spirit at an active stage of maturation.
After its initial maturation, the whiskey was finished in Barolo wine casks. Nebbiolo, the grape behind Barolo, is associated with firm tannins, lifted acidity, dark red fruit and a naturally drying profile. When these casks are used for finishing, the influence comes through the wood as tannin, phenolic material and acid driven structure rather than residual wine sweetness.
As these compounds dissolve into the spirit, they tighten the palate and sharpen flavour definition. Dark berry notes, citrus oils and controlled bitterness are emphasised, giving the whiskey grip and momentum without adding weight.
Bottling at higher strength stretches flavour delivery across the palate, giving the whiskey length and definition from entry through the finish. Bottling without chill filtration preserves phenolic material and flavour carrying compounds, contributing to texture and persistence.
On the nose, the whiskey shows dark berries, orange peel and light spice over a clean malt core. The palate is firm and focused, with red fruit and citrus oils carried by tannin driven dryness and restrained oak bitterness. The finish is long and structured, with acidity and spice continuing as the palate gradually dries.
