A hand-filled exclusive from Bunnahabhain's Warehouse 9, drawn from a single Pedro Ximénez cask (#3) and bottled in 2025 after 33 years of maturation. Spirit distilled in 1992 sits firmly in the Highland Distillers era of the distillery's ownership history, before the 2003 sale to Burn Stewart and the subsequent move to Distell and now Loch Lomond Group. The bottling strength of 42.7% is the natural cask strength after three decades of evaporation in dunnage on the edge of the Sound of Islay; it's not been brought down with water. The drop from a typical fill strength of 63.5% to 42.7% over 33 years is a meaningful signal. That much angel's share concentrates the cask's wood-derived sugars, esters and tannins into a much smaller volume of spirit, while the long oxidative contact develops complexity that younger sherry maturations cannot reach. Pedro Ximénez maturation over this kind of timeframe pushes deep raisin, fig paste, treacle and molasses into the spirit, with the dunnage humidity moderating the wood-bitter edge that PX casks can develop in hotter warehouses. What's typical for Bunnahabhain at this age is a long, slow-developing palate where the spirit's natural oiliness carries the heavy sherry without the texture going syrupy.
