Blended Malt Scotch Whisky Secrets of Smoke CB (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It brings together malts from more than one distillery, Caol Ila lending the peat. Diageo's Special Releases have featured both peated and unpeated Caol Ila.

Islay malts bring the smoke, the lighter Caol Ila style keeping it clean rather than heavy. A first fill sherry cask drove a deep, figgy, nutty character. Cool, damp warehousing slows the loss of the angel's share over the years. Its spirit also feeds blends such as Bell's and Black Bottle. The warehouses are ranged along the rocky shore at the water's edge. A clean smoke and a coastal salt define the distillery style. A slow maturation in the cool island air keeps the spirit fresh and oily. Olive oil and lemon sit at the heart of the Caol Ila character. The cool Islay air gives a slow, steady maturation by the shore.

Undiluted at 52%, it is powerful. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. An oily smoke coats the palate, citrus and brine behind. The finish is long, smoky and citrussy. A characterful smoky blended malt Scotch.
