Description
The Story of the Spaniard (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It marries malts with Glendullan lending a green, fruity Speyside note. Glendullan is a green, grassy Speyside malt, long destined mostly for blends. Within a few years it was supplied to King Edward VII by royal request, from 1902. Since 2007 its single malt has been bottled as the Singleton of Glendullan, aimed at the United States.
The Glendullan within gives orchard fruit and a soft malt. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the light spirit. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation. The fresh, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft honey.
At 43% it is smooth and fruity. Green apple, pear and a light grass run through it. The body is light and fresh, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
