A long-aged New Yarmouth from Trelawny, this leans on chocolate, roasted nuts and dried fruit over a dry, tannic oak finish, an unsweetened single cask bottled at a forceful 66.8% by Blackadder.
Description
New Yarmouth has become one of the independent scene's favourite Jamaican pot and column houses, prized for robust tropical fruit and spice, and this 1994 distillate is a benchmark vintage. Blackadder selected a single ex-bourbon cask and bottled it raw, without reduction, so the 66.8% strength is left fully intact for those who like their Jamaica undiluted.
Distilled from molasses and matured in Europe rather than the tropics, the cask gives a slower, gentler extraction across more than two decades, which shows in the cocoa, nutty and dried fruit weight rather than raw fruit. The aroma runs to chocolate and ripe tropical fruit, the palate turns roasted and creamy, and the finish dries out into oak, tannin and toasted spice. A serious, oak driven sipper that reads as rich and almost caramel sweet despite no added sugar, best with a little water and time.
