Description
The Dutch whisky market has been a significant working partner for Arran's Private Cask programme, with multiple Netherlands focused bottlings appearing across the catalogue. This 2001 vintage 12 Year Old draws on cask 2001/869, an ex Bourbon hogshead matured at Lochranza through the early 2000s expansion of the distillery's production volumes. The 191 bottle outturn reflects the working yield of a hogshead after twelve years of cask evaporation.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2001 and matured twelve years in a single ex Bourbon American oak cask. Bottled in 2014 at the natural cask strength of 56% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 191 bottle outturn covering the full working volume of the single hogshead.
Twelve years of ex Bourbon maturation produces measured integration of cask and spirit, with vanillin, cis whisky lactones and the coconut sugar layer from American oak hemicellulose breakdown supporting the underlying Arran citric and fresh fruit signature. The 56% cask strength bottling preserves the full lipid fraction and the textural weight that filtered bottlings would lose. Spirit from the 2001 vintage falls within the period of stabilised Lochranza production under the established house template.
