Whisky.de exclusives sit within the broader pattern of retailer specific bottlings Arran has produced for major European whisky merchants. Whisky.de, based in Bavaria, is one of the longest established German online whisky retailers and has worked with Arran on bottlings for the German market over a number of years. This 10 Years Old uses Virgin Oak cask maturation rather than the standard Bourbon and sherry cask combination of the regular 10 Years Old, producing a distinctly different cask interaction profile.

Spirit matured for ten years at Lochranza in Virgin Oak casks, meaning fresh unused American or European oak casks rather than the more common refilled Bourbon or sherry wood. Bottled in 2020 at 46% without chill filtration and without added colour.

Virgin Oak maturation delivers a markedly different extraction profile from refilled cask wood. Fresh oak carries the full unleached complement of lignin, hemicellulose and oak extractables, producing higher initial loadings of vanillin, whisky lactones and the toasted sugar fraction from charred staves. The faster initial extraction also brings forward higher concentrations of furfural and the new wood tannic compounds, producing a more wood forward and structurally tannic whisky than refilled Bourbon would deliver at the same age.
