Arran spirit distilled 2005 and matured 10 years in single ex Bourbon cask 2005/800171, bottled at 55.5% for the Netherlands market in 2016 from an outturn of 247 bottles. Another Netherlands market Private Cask, with the 2005 distillation year placing the spirit in Lochranza’s tenth full production year, by which point the distillery’s house style had stabilised under the long established production template.

Description

The Arran Private Cask programme produces multiple Netherlands market releases per year through working relationships with Dutch specialist retailers. This 2005 vintage 10 Year Old uses cask 2005/800171, an ex Bourbon barrel matured at Lochranza through the late 2000s and into the mid 2010s. The internal cask reference 800171 sits within the higher numbered Arran cask numbering used for the later years of the cask numbering system before recent renumbering.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2005 and matured ten years in a single ex Bourbon cask. Bottled in 2016 at 55.5% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 247 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the single cask after ten years of cask evaporation.

Ten years of ex Bourbon maturation produces measured cask interaction with the Arran spirit signature still very visible. The American oak supplies vanillin, whisky lactones and the toasted sugar layer from hemicellulose breakdown, while the underlying citric, fresh fruit and stone fruit ester load drives the dominant flavour. The 55.5% cask strength preserves the full lipid fraction without filtration loss.
