Arran Marsala Cask

The Limited Edition Single Cask Malt programme at Arran provides an outlet for individual casks showing distinctive character that warrants standalone bottling. Where the core range and wine cask finish bottlings vat multiple casks for consistency, the Single Cask programme presents the unfiltered, unblended character of one specific cask. This Marsala cask release is among the wine cask single cask bottlings from that programme, drawing on the distillery's longstanding work with Italian fortified wine casks.

The spirit was matured at Lochranza either fully in a single Marsala cask or with a portion of standard maturation followed by extended Marsala finishing, with the resulting single cask bottled at its natural strength of 57.3% without chill filtration and without added colour.

The single cask presentation preserves the full character variation that vatting normally averages out. The Marsala oxidative wine residue contributes sotolon, polyphenols and residual sugar absorbed during the original wine maturation, with the level of these compounds varying significantly between casks based on the original Marsala age and style. The single cask format captures the specific profile of this individual parcel of wood and spirit interaction.
