Arran Limited Edition – Distillery Exclusive 22 Years Old 1996

The Distillery Exclusive sub set of the Limited Edition programme covers single cask releases made available only through the Lochranza distillery shop and online channels, rather than through trade distribution. The format combines the Limited Edition single cask presentation with the visitor centre exclusive distribution model. Cask 419 from the 1996 vintage was matured twenty two years before being bottled in 2018 for this Distillery Exclusive release.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1996 and matured twenty two years in a single Oloroso seasoned cask. Bottled in 2018 at 50.8% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 352 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the cask after twenty two years.

Twenty two years of Oloroso cask maturation produces deep cask integration with the underlying Arran spirit signature, with the sherry compound layer of sotolon, furfural, syringaldehyde and developed oxidised polyphenols sitting in mature balance against the spirit character. The cask wood as European oak contributes its full tannic backbone and supporting lactone profile, with the long maturation period producing the deep aldehyde driven aromatic register characteristic of long aged Oloroso single casks.
