Description
The Provenance range was launched in 2000 under Douglas Laing's McGibbon subsidiary as the company's young single cask line, sitting below Old Particular in the bottler's hierarchy. Bottlings typically target six to fourteen years old. The Coastal Collection is a themed sub range within Provenance focused specifically on distilleries with coastal or island character, including Arran, Bunnahabhain, Talisker, Old Pulteney and others. This Arran release sits within that themed collection alongside other coastal expressions from the same period.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2013 and matured eight years in a single cask before being shipped to Douglas Laing for bottling. The cask wood type is consistent with the Provenance template of refill American oak hogsheads selected for clean cask interaction at younger maturation. Bottled at 46% with no chill filtration and no added colour.
At eight years old the cask interaction sits at the early integration phase, with the underlying Arran new make character very visible. The 46% bottling strength is the threshold above which chill filtration becomes unnecessary, allowing the long chain fatty acid esters to remain in solution. Provenance bottlings of Arran consistently show the distillery's fresh fruit and citric signature with a measured Bourbon cask underlay.
