Arran peated spirit distilled 2005 and matured 9 years in ex Bourbon casks 05/159 and 05/161, vatted together and bottled at 50.7% for the German market in 2014 from an outturn of 510 bottles. A two cask vatting from the early years of Lochranza’s peated production trials, with the 2005 vintage falling within the experimental peated programme that began in 2004 and ultimately led to the Machrie Moor series and Lagg distillery.

Description
Arran began producing peated spirit at Lochranza in 2004 in dedicated short runs separated from the main unpeated production. The 2005 Peated Edition draws on the second year of those experimental peated trials, sitting in the historical record alongside the earliest Machrie Moor stock. This Private Cask programme bottling for the German market vats two casks (05/159 and 05/161) into a single coherent release, with an outturn of 510 bottles reflecting the combined yield of the two casks after nine years of cask interaction.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2005 from peated malt and matured nine years in ex Bourbon American oak casks. Casks 05/159 and 05/161 were filled in the same production period and vatted together at bottling for the volume needed to deliver the 510 bottle outturn. Bottled in 2014 at 50.7% without chill filtration and without added colour.
The 2005 peated specification at Lochranza ran at around 14 ppm phenols, with guaiacol, methyl guaiacol and cresol compounds carried into the new make from kilned barley husk. Nine years of ex Bourbon maturation delivers vanillin and whisky lactones from the American oak, with the peat smoke integrated rather than dominant. The two cask vatting produces slightly more consistency than a single cask presentation while retaining the cask strength and unfiltered character of the working batch.
