Description
Bottled in 2021 for European market distribution, this Arran 10 Years Old captures the expression in its final pre rebrand presentation. By 2021 Arran was producing its 10 Years Old at consistent core range volume from inventory laid down between 2005 and 2007, the period during which the distillery's production had stabilised under James MacTaggart's tenure as Master Distiller.
The cask blend is the standard 10 Years Old construction: first fill ex Bourbon American oak barrels for the dominant share, paired with sherry casks for backbone and depth. The proportional split varies subtly across batches to maintain consistency to the established profile rather than to follow a fixed recipe. Bottled at 46%, non chill filtered, no added colour, with the natural amber derived entirely from cask interaction.
The 46% strength sits at the threshold where filtration becomes unnecessary, allowing the long chain fatty acid esters to remain in solution and carry the textural weight of the spirit. The vanillin and whisky lactone profile from the Bourbon casks combines with furfural and dried fruit compounds from the sherry portion to produce the layered profile the 10 Years Old has been built around since its first release. Flavour profile: citric, vanilla, fresh fruit, honey, new wood, chocolate.
