Description
Arette Gran Clase Extra Anejo comes from El Llano in the Tequila and Amatitan area of the lowland Valles, the Orendain family distillery whose Arette brand draws on estate volcanic valley agave. It is a classic extra anejo carrying a slightly higher strength than usual at 43%, and the house states its tequila is made without glycerol, caramel or oak extract.
The agave is cooked in hornos, milled, and twice distilled in copper pot stills before maturation in used American white oak barrels that mostly held bourbon. That ex bourbon wood drives the profile, giving cooked agave, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon and oak with fruity components and pepper. The palate follows the nose with a clear agave and oak line, a traditional extra anejo character carried at the firmer 43% strength.
