Released through Douglas Laing's Old & Rare Platinum Selection, the Glasgow bottler's premium single cask programme reserved for exceptional aged casks. Douglas Laing's modern releases sit alongside the parallel Distillery 1975 single cask programme that Glenmorangie ran throughout the 2000s, with both drawing from the same Hiram Walker era warehouse stock.

Filled into refill American oak cask in 1975 during Hiram Walker's full production years and matured on Islay for thirty years across the 1981 mothball, the late 1980s reopening, the 1996 Allied Distillers final closure and the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition. Bottled in 2006 at 46.1% ABV, unfiltered, uncoloured. The 46.1% reading after three decades reflects steady ethanol attrition in the maritime warehouse where humidity drives alcohol loss ahead of water.

Thirty years of refill American oak maturation delivers near complete wood interaction. Cis and trans oak lactones reach saturation, hemicellulose breakdown furans build caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde deliver sweet baking spice. The 1975 peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) have undergone substantial oxidative conversion across three decades into leather, tarred rope and seasoned bonfire ash. At reduced ABV the polyphenols and acid compounds express more freely than at cask strength. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature carries through as concentrated tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
