The Character of Islay Whisky Company is an Elixir Distillers brand specialising in Islay single cask releases, drawn from the wider Elixir warehouse archive that includes the Single Malts of Scotland, Port Askaig and Elements of Islay programmes. Elixir Distillers, operated by the Whisky Exchange founders Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh, has built one of the deepest independent Scotch single cask inventories in the country, with Islay holdings spanning multiple distilleries and vintages.

Filled into cask #257 in 2001 during the modern Glenmorangie era at Ardbeg. Matured on Islay for eighteen years across the 2004 LVMH purchase and into the modern era. Bottled at 54.5% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour.

Eighteen years of American oak maturation builds developed mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) reach expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Glenmorangie spec peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity with moderate oxidative shift emerging. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
