Ardbeg 15 Years Old 2004 Cask #11673 (The Character of Islay)

Released under The Stories of Wind and Wave series, a themed sub programme within The Character of Islay Whisky Company that groups selected Islay single casks under a unifying narrative presentation. Cask #11673 is drawn from the 2004 distillation cohort, the year Moët Hennessy acquired Glenmorangie and Ardbeg from Macdonald Greenlees, marking a transition year between the early Glenmorangie revival and the modern LVMH era.

Filled into refill American oak cask #11673 in 2004 during the transition year between Glenmorangie plc ownership and the new LVMH owned Moët Hennessy structure. Matured on Islay for fifteen years across the modern stable era. Bottled in 2020 at 54.9% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour.

Fifteen years of refill American oak maturation builds the developed mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Glenmorangie spec peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity at this age, delivering classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
