Ardbeg 14 Years Old 2005 Cask #10394 (The Character of Islay)

A Character of Islay release drawn from cask #10394 of the 2005 distillation cohort. The 2005 vintage is one of the most heavily released cohorts in the modern Ardbeg archive, with the Distillery's own single cask programme having issued 13, 15, 16 and 17 year bottlings alongside the celebrated Feis Ile 2021 release from cask #5460 (originally earmarked for Supernova). Independent bottlings from the same vintage are scarcer, with this Character of Islay release representing one of the available Elixir warehouse holdings.

Filled into refill American oak cask #10394 in 2005 during the modern LVMH owned Glenmorangie era. Matured on Islay for fourteen years. Bottled at 49.1% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 49.1% reading reflects steady ethanol attrition through the humid maritime warehouse cycle.

Fourteen years of refill American oak maturation builds developed early mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Glenmorangie spec peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity at this age. At reduced ABV the polyphenols and acid compounds express more freely. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
