Description
Released through Ardbeg's Distillery Single Cask programme, drawn from the 2005 cohort of modern Glenmorangie owned production. 2005 sits eight years into the post acquisition era and represents the fully matured modern operating model: stable stillhouse routine, the modern peating specification at 50 to 55 ppm phenol in malted barley sourced from Port Ellen Maltings, and systematic warehouse management across the Islay storage estate.
Matured on Islay for thirteen years from 2005 under the LVMH owned Glenmorangie group. Bottled in 2018 at 56.4% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The cask strength reading after thirteen years sits at the upper end of expected natural strength for refill ex Bourbon maturation, indicating a relatively tight cask seal and a cooler warehouse position with lower ethanol attrition than average.
Thirteen years of American oak maturation builds the modern Ardbeg signature in mid age expression: cis and trans oak lactones for coconut and oiled wood at moderate concentration, hemicellulose furans for emerging caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde for sweet baking spice. Modern peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) read at full intensity, delivering classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke (kiln char, tarred rope, medicinal iodine). The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated tropical fruit (pineapple, lemon, melon) beneath the integrated phenolic core.
