Arcane Ananas Rôti

Arcane Ananas Roti is a flavoured rum from Mauritius, built on a molasses base distilled on a column still and then infused with roasted pineapple. It makes no claim to being a dry aged rum; this is firmly a sweet, fruit-forward bottling in the modern flavoured-rum mould, and it is best enjoyed as such.

The roasted pineapple dominates from nose to finish, joined by candied sweetness, a rounded body and an unexpected note of roasted almond that adds a little depth. The palate is sweet and liqueur-like, the finish carrying that same syrupy pineapple along with a touch of alcohol warmth. At 40% it drinks soft and easy, a dessert pour or a base for tropical cocktails rather than something to study neat. Anyone after grassy cane character should look elsewhere, but for a sweet pineapple treat it delivers exactly what the label promises.
