Description
An Fear Grinn Móinteach is a peated single malt bottled in 2021 by Whiskey Factor, a Belgian independent, from spirit distilled at The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth. Móinteach takes its name from the Irish for bogland, an honest signpost for a whiskey built on peated malt in a country where smoke is the exception, and the release ran to 1,000 bottles for the Belgian market.
First fill American bourbon barrels did the maturing, layering vanilla, coconut and honeyed sweetness under a soft, rounded peat smoke that suggests turf and toasted grain rather than iodine. It carries no age statement and is bottled at 46%, an easy drinking strength for the style, with the smoke fading gently into sweet malt and a touch of citrus on the finish.
