The cognac cask edition of the Austrian Empire Navy Rum from the Albert Michler Distillery, a Barbados molasses rum finished in casks that previously held cognac. At 46.5% it has a little more grip than the standard bottling, while keeping the soft, accessible navy style.

The profile leans sweet and gentle: vanilla, caramel and a light alcoholic note on the nose, then vanilla, caramel and nougat on a soft palate, with a thin, minty, faintly coffee touched finish. The cognac influence is subtle rather than dominant, and the overall impression is of a smooth, dessert leaning rum carrying some apparent sweetness rather than a dry, wood driven one. Pleasant and easy going, best understood as a soft sipper.
