Springbank 21 Year Old 2023 Release

Springbank’s 21 Year Old stands at the upper end of the distillery’s age-statement range and has been released as a limited but core expression since 2012. While Springbank’s age statements like the 10, 12 and 15 year olds are more regular, the 21 year old reflects careful maturation and selective vatting of older stock, making each edition notable. Bottlings of this age began appearing more consistently in the 2000s as Springbank’s inventory of well-matured spirit grew.

This 2023 edition was bottled on 03 July 2023 at 46.0% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in colour, with an outturn of 3600 bottles. The cask composition for this release consists of a purposeful mix: 45% ex-bourbon, 20% sherry, 20% rum and 15% port casks. This combination delivers structural balance from bourbon wood, rich spice and dried fruit from sherry, warmth from rum influence and rounded fruit depth from port-seasoned barrels.

On the nose, expect layered aromas of dried stone fruit, citrus zest, gentle oak spice and subtle coastal notes. The bourbon influence gives clarity and vanilla sweetness up front, while the rum and port elements bring rounded fruit and warmth. Mineral notes and a restrained maritime character anchor the profile, typical of mature Campbeltown style.
