Description
Los Siete Misterios Espadin Mexicanito is a joven ensamble mezcal from the Oaxacan house founded by brothers Julio and Eduardo Mestre. It marries cultivated Espadin, Agave angustifolia, with Mexicano, Agave rhodacantha, a wild maguey that brings a fruitier, gently savoury lift to the dependable Espadin backbone, the pairing distilled together rather than blended after the fact.
The house works in the artesanal style, pit roasting the agave for its roasting smoke and crushing on a tahona stone wheel before copper distillation. The nose and palate echo each other through fresh chopped herbs and lemon, balanced by spicy chilli and roasted vegetables, a savoury, herbal reading of two agaves rather than a one note smoke bomb. At 45% it keeps the texture and intensity that come from bottling undiluted.
