Description
Avion Reserva 44 Extra Añejo is a 100 percent agave tequila built on the Avión Silver blanco and made entirely from agave grown in the highlands of Los Altos in Jalisco. The house slow-roasts the agave at lower temperatures to protect its natural aromas. Each bottle is filled into crystal, hand numbered and individually signed, a presentation that matches its standing at the top of the range.
The age class is earned. The spirit matures forty-three months in oak casks and then a further thirty days in small petite-oak barrels turned daily, for a total of forty-four months, well beyond the three year extra añejo minimum. Deliberately, it sidesteps the heavy vanilla and caramel of some peers in favour of a classic dry, herbal profile. The nose shows agave, ripe fruit, eucalyptus, cinnamon and oak, while the palate brings intense roasted agave with a hint of citrus and restrained vanilla, more herb than sweet, fine and peppery into a gently warming, lightly oaked finish.
